Gutter Cleaning & Clearance

A thick moss layer on a north pitch holds water against the tiles through every freeze thaw cycle of a Staffordshire winter, which is how concrete tiles can start to spall and delaminate. Wet moss is also surprisingly heavy across a whole roof. And every storm washes a fresh load of it straight into the gutters, which is why so many gutters block again three months after being cleared.
Roof cleaning across Staffordshire is not cosmetic work, though the visual difference is the part people notice first. It is the difference between maintaining a roof and slowly replacing one.
There is a right order to this. We scrape and physically remove the moss first, working down the pitch, and clear it off the roof, out of the gutters and up off the ground afterwards. The roof is then soft washed at low pressure with a biocide treatment, which slows down the regrowth that would otherwise start again from what is left in the surface of the tile.
What we do not do is put a pressure lance on a roof. High pressure water strips the granular surface off concrete tiles, the layer giving them their colour and their weather resistance, and it can force water up under the laps and into the roof space. It looks spectacular on the day and it is not worth what it costs the roof.
Two things worth knowing before you book, because they catch people out. The roof will not look finished on the day. The moss comes off there and then, but what the treatment kills weathers away gradually, so the colour carries on improving for weeks after we have gone. And taking a heavy moss layer off sometimes uncovers a tile that was already cracked or slipped underneath it. If that happens we photograph it and show you.

Get My Free QuoteWe clean roofs throughout Uttoxeter and the surrounding villages: Rocester, Marchington, Doveridge, Denstone, Alton and Abbots Bromley. We also travel across Staffordshire to Cheadle, Stafford, Stone, Rugeley and Burton upon Trent, and out to Ashbourne.
Every roof is assessed before we quote. Some roofs are not safe or not worth cleaning, and we will say so rather than take the job.
Most complaints about cleaners are not about the cleaning. They are about people who do not turn up, do not say anything and leave a mess behind. These are the things we hold ourselves to on every single visit.
Gates are closed behind us, hoses are kept off borders and out of doorways, nothing is leant against your guttering or your conservatory, and everything is put back where we found it. Fully insured to £5 million, on every visit.
A round only works if the person cleaning is reliable. You get a date, we keep it, and if the weather moves a visit you hear it from us first rather than finding out by nobody arriving.
A text the night before every visit, so there is time to unlock a side gate, move a car off the driveway or shut an upstairs window. No unannounced knocks.
A text or an email once the work is done, whichever you prefer. If you are out at work you still know the moment your property has been cleaned.
Payment is by direct debit, card or bank transfer, collected after the visit. Nothing to find on the day, nothing to leave under a plant pot, and a record of every payment on both sides.
If any part of the work is not right, call within 24 hours of the visit and we come back and put it right, free of charge and without an argument about it. It is on the front of the site rather than tucked away in the terms, because we mean it.
Fixed, in writing, and free to ask for. The first clean is charged at the standard price, the same as every one after it, and the figure does not move unless you ask us to do more work.
Roof cleaning is priced by roof size, pitch, tile type and how much moss is present. Ultra Clean Exteriors quotes a fixed price after seeing the roof, and quotes are free. Call 07876 645746.
Yes. High pressure washing strips the granular surface from concrete tiles and can force water under the laps. Ultra Clean Exteriors scrapes moss off by hand and then soft washes at low pressure with a biocide treatment instead.
Longer than an untreated one, but it is not permanent and any exact figure would be a guess. It depends on shade, overhanging trees, which way the pitch faces and how much moss was there to start with. A north facing pitch under trees will green up again sooner than a south facing one in the open.
No, and it is worth knowing that before you book. The moss is scraped off on the day, but what the treatment kills weathers away gradually, so the roof carries on lightening for weeks afterwards rather than looking finished straight away.
It does happen. A thick moss layer can hide a cracked or slipped tile, and taking the moss off is what reveals it. Ultra Clean Exteriors photographs anything found and shows you before leaving. Repairs are roofing work rather than cleaning, so you will be told what is there rather than quoted for it.
Yes. Moss removed from a roof ends up in the gutters, so gutters are cleared as part of every roof clean.
It is worth doing where moss is holding moisture against the tiles or repeatedly blocking gutters. Ultra Clean Exteriors will say if a roof does not need cleaning rather than quoting for work that is not required.
